Anyone reading these replies-
A so called "controlled release from what I have researched would simply be catastrophic as from what I understand opening the chamber could cause it to explode due to the pressure it is under and the explosive gases within. The Yellowstone Caldera is nature at its best and worst. It is so unpredictable "playing" with it without absolute assurance as to what will happen. It goes to show what a waste of money and science war and conflict around the globe is. As a civilization our main focus should be the preservation of our species. If not, then just leave everything to nature and planetary cycles.
                                                                          Peace-Tom

So, all in all, aside from being a National Park, Yellowstone would be just about the worst place on Earth to conduct underground nuclear tests, right?

Seriously, I wonder if anyone with the capability has it targeted. 5km is pretty deep, but it seems like all it would take is some deep cracking.

I guess what Gronkalonka means by "preemptive strike" is some sort of controlled release. That would be quite the risky experiment.
